GBS Virtual Mountain Drive Half Marathon
On the 12 September, we will hold the GBS Virtual Mountain Drive Half Marathon, in which we ask runners to sign up and run ‘Miles for Meals’ – your own personal race, run in your own time and in your location.
GBS Virtual Mountain Drive Half Marathon Registration Form
This race will take place on the 12th of September and consist of a 5km, 10 km and the full 21.1km marathon distance. We ask all runners to enter for a fee of R50, which will go towards the Makhanda Circle of Unity Food Security Cluster – a local organisation that has been running feeding schemes and community kitchens which have fed thousands of people during these lockdown months. We have confidence in their efficiency and integrity to use the funds raised.
You will need to submit evidence of your race – your time, photos, Strava data – and we will record all the results. There will be prizes! Yes – the most important prize will be for the runner who runs the greatest elevation, given that you need to ‘conquer the mountain’ for this race! Other prizes will be announced – but for now, you can be in the running for a weekend for two at Umngazi River Hotel and Spa or a game drive for 2-6 at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve!
But – we hear you say – what if I don’t have a fancy Fitbit with Strava? Many new runners do not have the technology to track their runs in this way. This doesn’t matter – as we are more focussed on encouraging as many people as possible to get out there and run ‘Miles for Meals’. If you’re dishonest about your times – that is your affair. With all the proceeds of the virtual racing going to feeding vulnerable and hungry people – we hope that you will join in this race in the spirit in which it is intended. Prizes will go to runners who submit verifiable times, elevations, photos and race stories.
So, take that, coronavirus! We will not be cowed by you! Our runners can run the Mountain Drive Half Marathon safely AND they can help us to feed hungry families while they take on the ‘Miles for Meals’!!
Watch our Facebook page for all the details as they emerge. For now, runners can register below.
By entering this race, you understand and acknowledge that you enter/participate at your own risk. Each runner is obliged to strictly adhere to all applicable rules, directives and instructions of the organisers in respect of this event.
